MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – COVID-19 case averages in Wisconsin have fallen to their lowest levels in three months.
The state Department of Health Services reported 2,508 new cases on Wednesday, pushing the seven-day average down to 2,537, its lowest level since Nov. 9.
Test positivity averaged 11.9% over the most recent seven-day period. That was its lowest level since Thanksgiving Day.
With 16 deaths reported Wednesday, the seven-day average stood at 20.
As of Thursday, 63.5% of the state’s population had received at least one dose of vaccine, and 59.7% had completed the vaccine series.
An average of 5,200 doses were administered over the most recent seven-day period, of which 2,280 were additional or booster doses.
Hospitalizations decreased slightly on Thursday, though the number of patients in intensive care was up.
The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 1,120 COVID-19 patients, 17 fewer than on Wednesday and 267 fewer than a week earlier. The number was also the lowest since Nov. 14. Of those, 228 were in intensive care, eight more than on Wednesday but 50 fewer than a week earlier.
Northeast region hospitals had 146 COVID-19 patients, down 12 in a day and 19 over a week. Of those, 30 were in ICUs, down two in a day but up two over a week. In the Fox Valley region, there were 85 COVID-19 patients, up one in a day but down 10 over a week. Sixteen of those were in ICUs, down one in a day and two over a week.
