WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau’s City Clerk says absentee ballots for the April 5th non-partisan election are now being distributed to those who requested them, along with special instructions for returning them.
Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde says with the ballot dropbox outside city hall locked due to the recent Court ruling regarding the use of dropboxes, voters are to either hand-deliver their own ballot to the Clerk’s office during business hours or return it through the US Postal Service.
Voters are not to deliver someone else’s ballot to the clerk’s office for counting.
Ballots dropped off in the utility payment box outside city hall also will not be accepted.
Bernarde says her staff has also included an instruction sheet with each ballot outlining the instructions on how to complete and return their ballot so they are counted. A set of instructions has also been included on the ballot.
Bot the ballot dropbox and utility payment box have been marked with these instructions as well.
The changes come following the Waukesha County Circuit Court’s order declaring the Wisconsin Elections Commissions 2020 guidance invalid.
Bernarde adds that there is still time to request an absentee ballot for the April 5th election, which can be done online at the myvote.wi.gov website or by mail or fax. Wausau City Hall will also offer early in-person absentee voting between Tuesday, March 22nd and Friday, April 1st from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
