GREEN BAY, Wi (WSAU) — The Green Bay Packers are bringing back one of their best defensive players from last season.
Linebacker De’Vondre Campbell signed a five year, $50 million dollar deal that will keep the 2021 All-Pro free agent in Green Bay.
Campbell will be 29 this coming season and earned a big raise after a breakout season. He finished seventh in the NFL in tackles with 153 and started all 18 games. He was also a plus in coverage
The Packers had a busy day as they released Za’Darius Smith and Billy Turner while also re-signing linebacker Preston Smith.
But the contract talks with wide receiver Davante Adams are reportedly far apart. According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Adams will not accept playing under the franchise tag that would pay him $20.5 million for this season. And the two sides are far apart on a long-term deal that would help the Packers salary cap issues.
Adams has said in the past he wants to be the highest paid receiver in the league.
The Packers did use the non-exclusive tag which means Adams can find a free-agent deal with another team but the Packers would have a chance to match or get compensation.
Adams could hold out through training camp to secure a long-term deal.
