STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Stevens Point police say they received a fake report of a murder-suicide on Friday afternoon.
Police said a talk-to-text phone call to 911 was actually a so-called swatting call. It’s a prank call intended to draw a large police response.
According to a news release from the Stevens Point Police Department: “At about 3:15pm, June 10, Stevens Point police said a call came into the Portage County Communications Center, claiming a man had just shot his girlfriend and was next going to kill himself.”
In response, police surrounded a home in the 1400 block of Fourth Avenue.
While they were there, they said two different pizza deliveries arrived at the home. At that point, they spoke with the person inside, who said they were not aware of the text message sent to dispatch.
Police say is no risk to the public, and the investigation is ongoing.
