STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Stevens Point Fire Department will expand its coverage to include the Village of Park Ridge after a meeting Tuesday.
The new contract would provide fire services to the village for six months, with the option to extend. Services would include emergency aid, and help with fire inspection and fire prevention.
The village will pay $48,000, with that money going directly into the Stevens Point Fire Department’s operations budget.
Park Ridge no longer has a fire department because of manpower shortages. There were a series of retirements and resignations earlier this year.
In two separate meetings held Tuesday, most committee members were in agreement over the contract.
Stevens Point Fire Chief J.B. Moody says he’s confident his staff will be able to cover the extra ground with no issues.
The Police and Fire Commission said it was a good agreement for now, but that things might change once the contract is up.
The contract begins July 1, and ends December 31.
