CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — The 14-year-old boy accused of beating Lilly Peters to death and then sexually assaulting her body has reportedly waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Investigators say the boy was riding his hoverboard alongside Lilly while she was biking home from her aunt’s house. He is said to have convinced her to go off the trail, then beat her with a large stick and strangled her.
When she didn’t return home, her parents reported her missing. The boy is then said to have returned to the scene of the crime and moved her body to a better hiding place when he discovered there was a search for her.
Attorneys for the boy submitted a letter to the judge this week waiving the hearing. Further court action is pending.
The boy, who still has only been identified by his initials, is being held on a $1 million bond. The case is currently in adult court, though the boy’s defense can petition to have the case transferred to the juvenile system.
It remains unclear when or if his name will be formally released.
