WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Light freezing rain made for a slick commute Tuesday morning in Marathon County.
WAOW TV reports that nearly 70 crashes occurred in a three-hour window from 6:00 to 9:00 AM on Tuesday. Many of those incidents occurred along Interstate 39 and Highway 29.
Interstate 39 was shut down completely south of Mosinee near the Marathon and Portage County border due to multiple crashes. That closure lasted for nearly two hours.
Other drivers reported multiple semis in the ditch along Highway 29 east of Wausau during their morning commute.
Road conditions have improved by noon, according to the 511 WI website.
