WISCONSIN (WTAQ-WRN) — ‘Tibet Day’ is commemorated in Wisconsin Friday.
It commemorates a 1959 uprising in the Tibetan capital city of Lhasa, against Communist Chinese occupation of the country. Thousands of Tibetans lost their lives in the ensuing uprising. Governor Tony Evers issued a proclamation, designating March 10 as Tibet Day in Wisconsin.
Members of the Wisconsin Tibetan Association gathered to mark the day at the City-County Building in downtown Madison, where the Tibetan national flag was raised.
