WAUKESHA, WI (WSAU) — The man found guilty of killing his mother in October of 2021 will be sentenced on unrelated charges later this spring.
Derek Goplin, who is already looking at a mandatory life sentence for the homicide, will also be sentenced for two counts related to the neglect of a child and exposing his genitals to a child on May 17th.
A Waukesha County judge sealed those charges, meaning they wouldn’t show up in a search of the state’s court access database, to avoid tainting the potential jury pool for the homicide case. The seal was lifted by a Waukesha County judge after Goplin was found guilty. A hearing in the case was held on Tuesday.
The May 17th date falls some 40 days after he will be sentenced for killing Susan Reese, his mother, in her Antigo home. That’s scheduled for April 6th at 1:30 PM in Langlade County, where only the possibility of parole will be discussed.
