CRANDON, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – Governor Tony Evers is traveling around the state as part of the National Travel and Tourism Week.
Wednesday he stopped by the Crandon International Raceway and Yeti’s Drive-In.
Evers pushed for increasing the state tourism department’s budget and investing more in the Tourism Capital Investment Grant Program. “It’s a multi-billion-dollar industry in the state of Wisconsin. People love coming here. We have lots of people in the industry. The more we can advertise and get people to come to Wisconsin the better.”
Chris Shafer is the Executive Director of the Forest County Chamber of Commerce. He says believes a boost to the tourism department would help the county grow. “We need to people to come up north. We need people to come up and spend time in Forest County. Stop here. Stay here. Play here spend their money. Visit our wonderful bars and restaurants etc.”
Republicans are in the process of re-writing the budget. It’s not yet known what funding for tourism will look like.
