MADISON – Eight Wisconsin FFA chapters have been awarded $500 grants through Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom’s inaugural FFA Food for America Ag Literacy Grant program. These grants will provide financial support to FFA chapters with plans for executing and evaluating agriculture literacy activities as part of Wisconsin FFA’s Food for America program.
In 2022-23 school year, Wisconsin FFA chapters reported activities reaching over 48,000 Wisconsin students and community members. Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom and Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation are excited to support FFA members who are dedicated to our shared mission of increasing agricultural literacy across grades Pre-K through 12th grade through collaboration with educators, industry experts and volunteers.
“The Food for America program provides learning opportunities for students of all ages,” said Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom Coordinator Beth Schaefer. “FFA members develop activities and teach their fellow students, learning core skills in communication and project management. Participants enjoy learning from a peer, which is an incredibly powerful educational experience.”

Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom program provides teachers and K-12 students with an understanding of how their food is produced. The program seeks to work within existing curricula to provide basic information on our nation’s largest industry: agriculture. Wisconsin’s Ag in the Classroom program is carried out by a network of local educators, volunteers and representatives from agricultural organizations and businesses. The goal of the program is to help students gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society, so that they may become citizens who support wise agricultural policies.
