Nice way to take the sting off another tough day for the Green Bay Packers who today rewarded Rashan Gary with a new four year contract extension at premier player prices. The first round pick from Michigan in 2019 was just blossoming into an edge rushing force when he was struck down with a torn ACL against the Detroit Lions. The fact that it was only 51 weeks ago, with Gary not only back on the field but leading the defense with 4 and a half sacks and 15 pressures on his ramp it up snap count is remarkable. A dedicated rehabilitation from surgery had Gary on the PUP list in camp, but on the active roster by opening day. As the team reconvened today after the 24-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings just down the hall and out the tunnel from the locker room Sunday, Gary had pretty much center stage to himself to talk about a deal, reportedly worth 107.5 million dollars, with 96 million in new money and a 34.6 million dollar signing bonus he had in his hands last Saturday morning. Quite the weekend for Gary and his family who run their own sports agency. Here’s what he had to say about the extended relationship with the Packers.
Got a firm handshake of congratulations after the media session with Rashan who was just as humble and motivated when he appeared as a guest on the 5th Quarter Show earlier this season. There were skeptics aplenty when Gary was getting started, he’s now become a defensive cornerstone through 2027.
