STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The Stevens Point City Clerk is looking for poll workers for what promises to be a busy 2024 election cycle.
Clerk Keri Yenter says they’re looking for enough staff for the city’s 11 polling locations for each of the next six elections, including four next year and two in 2025. Interested individuals must meet specific qualifications. Those include passing a criminal background check and completing required training before the election.
Workers also must be able to read and write in English.
Duties will include checking voter IDs, poll book management, and assisting voters as they complete their ballots. Workers will also assist with setup and tear down before and after the polls close, depending on what shift they are assigned.
Yenter notes that election day duties run for about 14 hours but they will try to split up into seven or eight-hour shifts if there are enough workers. First-time poll workers will always be assigned a half-day shift.
Election workers do have the option to be paid or to volunteer.
Those who are not eligible to vote are also not eligible to be poll workers.
Elections for 2024 will be held in April with a February primary if needed, and the 2024 Presidential election is scheduled for November. That will be preceded by an August primary.
