STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — More information has come out regarding the standoff in Stevens Point between police and a subject on Thursday.
A news release from Stevens Point Police Lieutenant Dana Williams details the standoff and search warrant executed in the 1600 block of Main St. in Stevens Point. Stevens Point Police received information from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office about 41-year-old Bernard Gordon.
Clark County deputies told Stevens Point Police that Gordon had physically assaulted a woman in the Town of Grafton and left to return to Stevens Point. During the altercation, Gordon told the woman that if he returned he would bring a gun to kill her. The woman told Clark County officials that Gordon did have a handgun that he usually carries on his person.
The Stevens Point Police Department located Gordon in the basement of a residence in the 1600 block of Main St. Police drafted a search warrant to go into the basement to retrieve Gordon. The Stevens Point SWAT Department arrived to help get Gordon from the residence, which was occupied by three other people. Of the four in the residence, everyone but Gordon exited willingly.
Gordon remained in the residence and broke into the upstairs portion of the property. Gordon barricaded himself in the upstairs portion of the residence threatening that he had a knife along with two guns. Police made contact with Gordon through a cell phone starting at 1:20 p.m. to negotiate Gordon into leaving the residence. Officers were on the phone with him for around four hours, and in that time Gordon threatened to kill officers he could see outside the house and threatened to kill himself.
Gordon did peacefully surrender to officers at 5:11 p.m. No weapons were found in the possession of Gordon by officers or the SWAT team. Gordon was interviewed after he was taken into custody and then moved to the Clark County Jail. He will be detained in Clark County as they continue their investigation into the incident in the Town of Grafton.
Charges being recommended for Gordon by the Portage County District Attorney’s Office include Felony Probation Warrant, Felony Threats to injure law enforcement, Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct, Misdemeanor Resisting Police, and Misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property.
Another occupant of the residence was arrested during the standoff Thursday afternoon. Amy Hill, 35, was arrested for Felony Possession of Fentanyl, Felony Maintaining a Drug trafficking residence, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
