PLOVER, Wis. (WAOW–WSAU)– Tis the season for giving and giving back, especially to those who have served our country.
The Disabled American Veterans is an organization that is dedicated to helping veterans in employment, transportation, and seminar services. The Disabled American Veterans decided this year to give back, to a man who served in the United States Navy named John Mustopich.
Mustopich recently fell on hard times financially and he said that this Christmas gift couldn’t have come at a better time.
“Right now, we’re having financial problems with our car. We can’t afford to pay our car payment so we were trying to sell our car and they mentioned they would be able to help us, ” said Mustopich.
The Disabled American Veterans of Stevens Point is the chapter that gifted the 1999 brown Chevrolet Truck, and they say they love to help veterans in need.
“It’s a great thing being this close to Christmas. It’s going to make the gentleman and his wife real happy,” said Frank Woaik, the commander of Disabled American Veterans of Stevens Point.
This kind gesture created a wave of emotions for Mustopich as he described what this gift meant to him with tears in his eyes.
“We get rid of our other car and that will help us pay our rent. That additional amount will help us pay our rent. A while back we were homeless and I don’t want to have to got through that again,” said Mustopich.
