WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department is reminding drivers of winter safety tips as central Wisconsin prepares for severe weather to come to the area.
Lt. Cory Gladden says simply removing snow from your vehicle and making sure your lights are on can go a long way, saying, “Making sure your windshields are cleared and the snow is off of your vehicle when you’re out driving is important, but we also encourage drivers out there to have their headlights on. A lot of cars come with automatic headlights, but that doesn’t mean your taillamps are on either, so we want to make sure your vehicle can be seen by other vehicles.”
Gladden further noted that drivers should keep warm clothing items and a first-aid kit in the vehicle in case of an accident and have to wait for law enforcement or medical personnel to arrive on the scene.
According to the National Weather Service, the Wausau area is bracing for snow during the day on Friday that could total up to 5 inches of accumulation and another 1 to 3 inches of snow during the evening hours.
