WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A two-week jury trial is scheduled to begin on Monday for the man accused of killing Mai Rue Vang, also known as Lily, back in 2021.
The suspect, Umberto Lo, was previously in a relationship with Vang but court records show she had taken out a no-contact order against him before the incident. Vang was shot in her Wausau apartment, and Lo was arrested shortly after police arrived.

Lo previously told a judge he was not competent to stand trial, but that didn’t hold up against testimony given by a doctor and four other exhibits.
The trial is scheduled to run through January 31st.
Last week Lo did enter a guilty plea to numerous counts of bail jumping. Judge LaMont Jacobson did not hand down a sentence for those, as they may become moot if the 27-year-old is found guilty on the homicide count. That carries a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole to be discussed.
Lo is being held on a $1 million bond.
