MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Bucks have fired rookie head coach Adrian Griffin after just 43 games as head coach.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report that Milwaukee fired head coach Adrian Griffin, despite guiding the team to a 30-13 record. Wojnarowski also stated that assistant Joe Prunty is anticipated to assume the role of interim head coach.
Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported that there have been “steady rumblings for weeks in NBA circles” over the fact that some Bucks veterans, such as star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, “had lost faith in” Griffin before his firing.
In a statement, GM Jon Horst called the decision to move on from Griffin “difficult” and that “We are working immediately toward hiring our next head coach. We thank Coach Griffin for his hard work and contributions to the team.”
Doc Rivers, who coached the Philadelphia 76ers for three seasons after stints with the Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics will “strongly” be considered for the full-time position, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. The Athletic’s Shams Charania has reported that Rivers and the Bucks “are working toward a deal.”
