WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marathon County woman is accused of beating another woman in what’s been described as a road rage incident in the Town of Ringle.
Terra LaFave is facing a felony count for strangulation or suffocation along with misdemeanor charges for battery and disorderly conduct. Investigators say she was choking a woman at the intersection of Clubhouse and Ringle roads.
The victim told police she had just passed a vehicle driving under the speed limit. As she continued on her way, that vehicle started flashing its headlights and turn signals at her.
The driver stopped at the next intersection and got out of the vehicle to ask if something was wrong. The other driver, LaFave, exited her car and confronted the victim, allegedly beating her and choking her to the point where she couldn’t breathe for 30 to 45 seconds.
A witness told police he approached the scene and told the couple he had a gun in an attempt to stop the fight.
When first responders arrived at the scene they found the victim lying on the road with a bloody face and swollen eyes.
The incident happened in late May. The complaint was filed on May 24th and LaFave made an initial appearance that day. She’s free after posting a $1,000 bond with conditions including a no-contact order with the victim and absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol.
LaFave’s husband is also facing charges of misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct. He told police that he was defending his wife.
Terra returns to court on August 27th for a pretrial conference.
