WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The United Way’s 10th annual Turkey Trot drew a record crowd to downtown Wausau Thursday morning.
More than 2,000 runners and walkers signed up for the race, raising $86,000 for the Marathon County Hunger Coalition.
“It reminds me that if you look for people who care, you’ll find them. There’s a lot of people that care in this community and want to help out. It also reminds me that it takes a village. We can’t do this work without our community,” Ben Lee, Director of Community Impact for United Way Marathon County, told WAOW TV.
Participants told WAOW they had many different reasons for participating. “It’s a good time to get out with friends, support a great cause, all the money going to United Way for Marathon County. And so we can eat pie!” said Emily Ertl, who was running the event for the first time.
