MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Assembly Republicans are scheduled to hold more than 160 ‘listening sessions’ in the coming weeks, and in Marshfield last night State Representative John Spiros says it was a chance for him and fellow lawmaker Bob Kulp to discuss the governor’s proposed state budget with the voters.
“I think it’s important to know what they’re thinking with regard to the governor’s budget,” Spiros said. “He put his budget out in February, and we said we’d be out having listening sessions, and here we are.”
The pair of lawmakers said hot topics around Central Wisconsin and in Madison include Medicaid expansion, transportation funding, the minimum wage, and drivers cards for undocumented immigrants; but Kulp thinks everything will come together in time to finalize a budget right on schedule.
“I think we’ll have a budget to the governor by early June, and then look that over and make some tweaks and vote on it hopefully by the end of June would be my guess,” Kulp said.
The pair also recently held round-table discussions with municipal leaders in Marshfield and Weston; and Sprios says he’s looking forward to another listening session planned for Friday in Mosinee.
