STATE COLLEGE, PA (WSAU) — A goal fest helped the Badger men’s hockey team outlast Penn State 7-3 to secure a weekend split with the Nittany Lions.
Six players scored seven goals for Wisconsin. Josh Ess led the way with two goals and an assist for the Gordie Howe hat trick. Linus Weissbach had one goal and two assists.
Tarek Baker added a shorthanded goal in the second period. Seamus Malone and Matthew Freytag also added goals.
Daniel Lebedeff saved 38 of the 41 shots he faced in net. Penn State starting goalie Peyton Jones was pulled early in the 3rd period in favor of Chris Funkey. Jones gave up six of the seven Badger goals, the last coming against an empty net.
With the win, the Badgers held on to the 6th place in the Big Ten standings, one point ahead of Michigan State and three points behind the Nittany Lions. Wisconsin closes out the Big Ten regular season with two games at Michigan next Friday and Saturday.
