MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — State Representative John Spiros (R-Marshfield) has been recognized by emergency responders from around the state with a major award, and Spiros says it’s a true honor to be recognized for his work on some life-saving legislation.
“It’s the ‘Legislator of the Year,’ and it’s from the Wisconsin EMS Association and their membership, and I was very humbled to receive the award,” Spiros said. “One thing that I’m real proud of is that when I’m done with all this, at least I’ll know that lives have been saved.”
Spiros got the award for his work on two EMS bills: One that teaches CPR in schools, and another that gives immediate CPR help by calling 911. “All of our schools are required to make sure children get compression CPR training,” Spiros explained. “And then the CPR-911 bill makes sure that dispatchers get the training so that they can save an individual’s life through CPR.”
That award was presented earlier this week at a ceremony in Milwaukee.
