WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Less than ideal track conditions combined with cold weather led to the cancelation of Saturday’s heats for the annual Wausau 525 snowmobile championships.
Organizers said their main concern was the condition of the snow on the track, saying it would kick up into the riders faces when they were taking corners.
In addition to the track conditions, temperatures hovered around 0 for most of the day with wind chill readings as low as -25.
The goal is to incorporate some of Saturday’s events into the Sunday racing schedule, according to WAOW TV. All tickets purchased for Saturday’s races will be honored for Sunday.
The cold also forced several other events in the Wausau area to either be postponed, altered, or canceled altogether on Saturday.
