MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — In Marshfield, the effect that too much ‘screen time’ can have on interpersonal relationships is the subject of several presentations by international youth speaker Joe Beckman at both the Marshfield public and parochial high schools later this week.
Dr. Ryan Christianson is superintendent of Marshfield public schools, and says Beckman’s message is one that everyone can benefit from. “It’s very powerful what he has to say about human connection. His approach and his work is speaking towards students. Obviously it’s good information, and it’s a good message for parents to hear as well.”
The event is being called ‘Reclaiming Human Connection,’ and Marshfield School District board member ‘SAM’ Steiner says it’s really all about relationships. “The underlying thrust of his presentation is about ‘screen time,’ and how much that is affecting our ability to connect and provide satisfying interpersonal relationships, which is essential for human development.”
Beckman’s presentations have been seen by more than 1 million students, in more than 1500 schools around the world.
That event is planned for this coming Thursday evening at Marshfield High School, and then at Columbus Catholic High School on Friday.
Both events are free of charge, but anyone interested in attending should contact the appropriate school for up-to-date details and times.
