STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A local volunteer group is working on repairing and expanding a biking trail in Portage County.
The Point Area Singletrack Association (PASTA) is raising money to expand the Standing Rocks Park mountain biking trail system in Stevens Point.
PASTA volunteer David Lieble says the group has started a GoFundMe to help with the construction costs of the trails.
“We hired a local trail builder, Chris Shot out of Merrill, to build, retouch, some of the existing trails. So we have a new 8-mile system there that’s more family-friendly and more conducive to novice riding.”
Construction in Standing Rock Park on the mountain bike trails is to both fix current trails and make new mountain bike trails. Construction on the trails did begin two weeks ago according to Lieble.
“We’re several miles into it already. Some of that is brand new trail. And some of that is retouching the existing trail. So it’s kind of making what we had there a little more rider friendly if you will. And also making some new flowy fun stuff.”
Construction began at the beginning of July and Lieble says PASTA is aiming to have all construction finished by August.
“Well, we have the equipment for just this month. So we’re going to try and wrap up all the rough construction this month and hopefully in early August. So pretty quick.”
The volunteer group is looking to raise $10,000 for the trails and Lieble says they have about a third of those funds. If you would like to donate, you can visit the GoFundMe here. Or you can donate at PASTA’s Facebook page.
