MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield’s Board of Education has approved student handbooks for the 2019-2020 school year that contain a new student cell phone policy for the district.
Board member Karen Shulman read a portion of the new policy at the meeting, and said it’s designed to control the use of PCDs or “Personal Communication Devices” during class time. “The use of PCDs in the educational setting is strictly prohibited. This includes, but not limited to prior to class starting and throughout the entire class period.”
That new policy was written based in-part on the recommendations of a special task force consisting of teachers, administrators, and students, and will be re-evaluated shortly after the start of the next school year.
Also at Wednesday night’s meeting, naming rights for the Marshfield High School field house were once again awarded to the Boson Company for another year. According to finance committee member Dale Yakaites, “It has been approved that the Boson Company bid $10,500 to have the naming rights for our Marshfield field house.”
And newly-elected board member Dr. Kajal Sitwala was also sworn-in at the meeting, along with the election of new officers including Frances Bohon who will serve another term as school board president.
