GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — Three early touchdowns held up for the Green Bay Packers as they downed the Minnesota Vikings 21-16 Sunday afternoon.
Aaron Rodgers found Jamaal Williams for a 15-yard touchdown pass less than three minutes into the first quarter before many fans had found their seats at Lambeau Field, giving Green Bay the early 7-0 lead.
That would stretch to 14-0 after Rodgers threw a 12-yard dart over the middle to Geronimo Allison. Aaron Jones closed out the Packers scoring with a two-yard TD plunge which capped off a 4 play, 33-yard drive early in the 2nd.
The Vikings made it a 21-10 game at the half thanks to Dalvin Cook who scampered 75 yards to the house to make the score 21-7. Dan Bailey added a 31-yard FG just before the break.
The only scoring in the second half would be a Kirk Cousins 45-yard pass to Stefon Diggs for a TD. Bailey would then miss the extra point.
Rodgers finished the game 22/34 for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jones rushed for 116 yards on 23 carries with one score. Davante Adams was the leading receiver with 7 receptions for 106 yards on nine targets.
Cook was the game’s top performer with 20 carries for 154 yards and one touchdown on the ground and three catches for 37 yards on three targets.
The win moves Green Bay to 2-0 on the season and alone atop the NFC North. Detroit sits in second place at 1-0-1, with Minnesota and Chicago both in 4th at 1-1.
The Packers host Denver in their first interconference game of the season on September 22nd. Coverage begins at 10 AM on WSAU.
