EDGAR, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Edgar School District has issued a statement regarding the referendum that did not pass in Tuesday’s election.
The ballot question read; “Shall the School District of Edgar, Marathon County, Wisconsin be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $150,000 for the 2020-2021 school year; by an additional $250,000 for the 2021-2022 school year; and by an additional $250,000 (for a total of $650,000) for the 2022-2023 school year and thereafter, for recurring purposes consisting of sustaining educational programming, operational and maintenance expenses?”
The resolution was voted down, 54 to 46-percent.
District administrator Dr. Cari Guden sent out the following statement Wednesday morning that said in part; “The next steps will include making cuts within our district so that we can balance the budget for the upcoming school year and beyond. We will also be discussing the possibility of asking the community to vote again in an upcoming election since the budget deficit will continue to increase. Again, this is very disheartening for our school district, students, staff, and the entire Edgar community. The School Board will communicate future plans with the community as the plans unfold.”
