MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WDLB) — The Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation is asking for donations of ‘home-sewn’ face masks to help alleviate the upcoming shortage that’s being anticipated.
That’s according to Terri Wilczek, the Chief Philanthropy Officer for the Marshfield Medical Center, who says the advantage of the home-sewn masks is that they’re able to be re-used after being re-washed and sanitized. “It is an absolute urgent need and we were basically told get every mask we possibly can. But it’s not like we need a hundred, we probably need thousands of these.”
And Wilczek says the donated masks will be needed statewide. “Because our system spans 2/3 of the state of Wisconsin we’re pushing this out everywhere, because we will need this for all of our hospitals and clinics.”
The donated masks are needed for both the patients and visitors, as well as the medical staff. “CDC has approved these as a barrier during these times, so it keeps the patients and visitors safe. It keeps our healthcare providers safe,” Wilczek explained.
Drop-off locations include the Marshfield Clinic Wellness Center on Western Street on Tuesdays and Fridays between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., and also the AbbyBank lobby in Wausau.
Many more drop-off locations, along with instructions for making the masks, are listed on the Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation’s Facebook page.
