MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Both Edgar and Stratford won their WIAA Championship games on Thursday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
Edgar brought home the D-7 title for the 2nd year in a row with a 19-0 win over Potosi/Cassville. Stratford, who moved up to D-5 this season, won a championship for the 3rd year in a row topping Wrightstown 21-6.
In snowy, windy conditions the Edgar defense came up big shutting down Potosi/Cassville in dominating fashion. The recovered two fumbles, had an interception and also stopped Potosi/Cassville four times on 4th down in the win.
Will Hackel and Maverick Butt had touchdown runs and Tucker Streit threw a touchdown to Butt on a fake field goal try that iced the win.
Jase Apfelbeck, who suffered a broken leg in the 2nd game of the season returned and had a big defensive day which included a fumble recovery.
It’s the ninth title for Edgar under long-time coach Jerry Sinz.
Stratford amassed 255 yards rushing in their victory. Brooks Vanderhoof ran for 137 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Jack Tubbs added 94 yards with a rushing touchdown and a passing TD to Colton Breit.
It’s the 3rd straight title for Stratford under head coach Jason Tubbs after winning the D-6 title the last two years
