WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Fire Department will conduct live fire training this week.
Crews will set controlled burns in the building at 1378 South 8th Avenue, allowing them to practice real-world search-and-rescue and firefighting scenarios.
These exercises will help enhance their skills in fire behavior, suppression, search and rescue, incident management, and arson investigation. The training is conducted in compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, ensuring that firefighters are prepared to respond effectively in emergencies.
“Training in acquired structures provides firefighters with a level of realism that cannot be replicated in traditional simulations,” said officials. “This opportunity will help Wausau firefighters sharpen their techniques and ensure they are well-equipped to protect the community.”
Kolbe and Kolbe Millwork donated the building and facilitated all necessary abatement.
