WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) There was a house fire on Wausau's west side Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 12:30 in the kitchen of a home on 1022 South Third Avenue. The family living there was not home at the time. They returned home from a trip and saw black smoke coming from the kitchen and called 9-1-1.

The fire damage was contained to the kitchen. There was smoke damage elsewhere in the home. The exact cause is still under investigation.
