HATFIELD, Wis (WSAU) There was a freight train derailment in Jackson County yesterday.
18 cars of a 19-car Canadian National train derailed east of Merrillan, near Hatfield. The accident happened Saturday night.
The train was not carrying any hazardous materials, and there is no danger to the public. The cars the left the rails were covered hopper cars carrying sand. The cause of the accident is not known. It may be because of snow and ice fouling the rails near a railroad crossing.
The Clark County Emergency Management team offered assistance, and they're still working with the railroad to clear the tracks.
