STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) — Today is the start of the World’s Largest Trivia Contest in Stevens Point as registration opens up for this weekend’s marathon event.
In person registration starts today at the 90 FM Studios at UW-Stevens Point, and trivia organizer Jim “The Oz” Oliva says you can expect to see some hefty lines right away when the doors open at 3 pm. “There’s lines outside the station, people waiting in line to register their teams, get their rulebooks, pick up merchandise and start their week of labor, trying to figure out the pictures in in the rule book.” The book, known as the New Trivia Times, contains the first set of clues in the quiz, a series of pictures that will be the subject of questions during the 54 hours of contest over the weekend.
Oliva says you don’t have to be a brainiac or have a massive collection of information in your head to take part in the Contest. “It’s that one thing, that one instance of something you know right off the bat. And everybody looked at them like they were nuts, and they couldn’t verify it, they call it in, they get 250 points. That’s just stuff you have.”
This year is the 46th annual Contest, and this year’s theme is Guardians of the Contest. Registration is $30 dollars, and can be completed through Friday evening at UW-Stevens Point’s 90 FM studios.
