STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) — Another very large trivia contest has come to a close. The University of Wisconsin Stevens Point hosted their 46th annual trivia contest over the weekend for 54 straight hours.
When it was all done, the team from Dad’s Computers took the top honors.
Eric Hamus is one of their team members. “Even though it’s the third time we’ve won now, it still feels great. We’re all very excited, very happy with the finish. We had a very fun time playing the whole weekend.”
Hamus says their team hasn’t changed much over the years, and they still have fun doing it. “We just really play to have fun. This is something that we do every year to get together. Yes, we take it seriously, but just like my brother said during our acceptance speech, we’re the same team we were twenty years ago when we took 150th place.”
Jim Oliva is the man they call Oz, the organizer of the contest and primary writer for the questions. He says he is still energetic after almost all of the 54 hour contest. “It just went well. It really was smooth, and the complaint line was busier than past years, like the last couple of years, not busier than it’s ever been but it’s probably good because it keeps me more energetic that way.”
Festivus for The Rest of Us took 2nd place this year.
Hundreds of teams take part in the contest each year, with many participating from outside of Stevens Point. The questions are read on the college radio station and their web stream, so you don’t have to be right in Stevens Point to participate.
Trivia is an annual fundraiser for the college radio station, 90 FM.
