WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — Congressman Sean Duffy made a pair of stops today in Central Wisconsin to talk about business development and emergency services training.
Duffy took a tour of a Wausau-area Kwik Trip and got a chance to learn more about the company as part of a meeting with the National Association of Convenience Stores. He says the industry has some issues to work out with how government regulations affect their business. “Whether it’s how they’re going to be selling gas, the price of gas, how they’re selling food here in their stores. There’s got to be a balance so people know what they’re buying, but when government becomes too heavy handed, the cost goes up so much and you see that in the price of the food you buy.”
Duffy also made a trip to Northcentral Technical College’s Public Safety Center for Excellence in Merrill to help out with the unveiling of a new training facility. Canadian National has donated a rail car to the school to help students train on responding to rail emergencies, something Duffy says is vital. “Making sure we have a skill set with our first responders that can meet the needs of community is important. Rail in our community is big, and making sure we have those folks well trained is what we’re doing.”
He also commented on the state of the GOP presidential race and says voters will see that Donald Trump isn’t the man they should be electing as the race continues. “As the bold rhetoric wears off, and we actually get to the substance of who he is and the ideas he has for the country, I think the Conservative movement, the Republicans will probably look somewhere else for someone who can fix the great problems with Conservative ideas.” Duffy says he’s not worried about Governor Walker’s lagging polls, because he’s got solid ideas that the country can resonate with in the future.
