UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (WSAU) — The Badger men’s hockey team is still looking for it’s first Friday night win of the season. Wisconsin lost 5-2 to Penn State at Pegula Arena Friday night.
The Nittany Lions scored first, but the Badger’s freshman Cameron Hughes scored the team’s only two goals, putting Wisconsin up 2-1. Just last weekend, Hughes had his first collegiate goal.
Wisconsin’s lead didn’t last. Eric Scheid scored at 1:26 into the second period. Casey Bailey put another one in during the third period to put Penn State up 4-2, and the Nittany Lions scored on an empty net with 9.2 seconds left to win 5-2.
Both teams had 37 shots on goal. The Badger’s Joel Rumpel had 32 saves. So far, Rumpel has had 11 games this season with over 30 stops.
Wisconsin will play Penn State again Saturday. The puck drops at 1:00 p.m. Pre-game activities will begin on WSAU 550 AM and 99.9 FM starting at 12:30 p.m. As soon as the hockey game is over, WSAU will begin coverage of Wisconsin basketball vs. Northwestern.
