MADISON, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Wisconsin football team confirmed today that John Settle will return as the Badgers’ running backs’ coach. The move has been speculated for some time, and it was unofficially reported last week to be a done deal — or close to it.
Settle coached the Badger running backs from 2006-through-2010, when new head coach Paul Chryst was the offensive coordinator in Madison. Settle was the coach when the U-W almost became the first school in F-B-S history to have three backs rush for a-thousand yards in the same season.
John Clay and James White surpassed that mark, and Montee Ball came close. After leaving Wisconsin in 2010, Settle spent three years in the N-F-L as an assistant — two seasons with Carolina and once with Cleveland, before serving under Chryst at Pitt a season ago.
Settle’s hiring finalizes Chryst’s first staff as the Badgers’ head man.
