NEW LONDON, Wis. (Wheeler News Service) — The New London Fire Department has rescued a teenager stranded on ice in the Wolf River.
Crews were called to a location near the Shawano Street Bridge at 6:41 p-m Friday. They found an 18-year-old man floating down the river on a piece of ice. He later told authorities it broke off in the strong current shortly after he had stepped on it.
The New London Fire Department says it took only four minutes to arrive and help the stranded teenager. Firefighters used ice rescue suits to swim in the frigid river and save him. The teenager wasn’t injured.
