SCOTTSDALE, AZ (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-to-nothing last night in a Cactus League exhibition at Scottsdale. The Crew scored seven runs in the fifth inning, and out-hit Arizona 13-to-4.
Jean Segura had three hits and three R-B-I’s. Scooter Gennett added a pair of hits and two R-B-I’s. Adam Lind and Elian Herrera each drove in a run and had two hits as sluggers Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez were given the day off.
Manager Ron Roenicke says he appreciates the offensive explosion over the past week, noting that it’s harder to accomplish these days due to better pitching. Milwaukee scored 25 runs in a pair of back-to-back affairs last weekend.
Brewers’ starter Michael Blazek struck out four and walked two in four solid innings, as he tries to corral a big-league roster spot. Roenicke said Blazek showed a great breaking ball and good locations on his fastball.
Braun and Ramirez are expected to return this afternoon when the Brewers play the Oakland “A’s” in Phoenix.
