MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) — There’s a special meeting of the Marshfield School Board set for later Thursday afternoon, and a probable passage of a new “Alternate Compensation Model” for professional staff, including the district’s teachers. School Board president Marlene Stueland said the plan has just a few primary goals. According to Stueland, “What was important? A couple things came out. Retaining employees, making certain they had good compensation for the work that they do here.” Stueland said the plan was well researched, and stressed compensation for professional development. “What were the models out there? What were the best practices? What was research showing in terms of compensation, retention, etc.?”
District business manager Pat Saucerman explained why the new compensation plan is necessary following Act 10. According to Saucerman, “What it really caused was this disparity where those young teachers, the newer ones, were really going to fall behind and lag behind over time to their veteran counterparts.”
WSAU submitted a public records request on Monday to learn the specific terms and conditions, or amount of compensation included in the new compensation package, but as of today that information has not been forthcoming from the district office.
That special meeting of the Marshfield School board is set for 6:00 at the district offices,1010 East fourth Street in Marshfield.
