(Green Bay, WI) — Former Green Bay Packers head football coach Lindy Infante passed away on Thursday from pneumonia. Infante was 75.
Infante was reportedly hospitalized after breaking four ribs. While hospitalized, doctors discovered through X-rays and tests the seriousness of the pneumonia.
The Packers hired Infante to be the 10th head coach in team history in February of 1988, about a week after Michigan State coach George Perles had accepted and then backed out of the job. He compiled a 24-40 record in four seasons in Green Bay before going on to coach two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
Infante’s only playoff appearance came with the Colts in a wild card game loss to the Steelers in 1996. The Packers finished ten-and-six in 1989 but Infante was named the N-F-L Coach of the Year for his efforts.
