STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The Boys & Girls Club is celebrating a large donation to locations in four Wisconsin regions from the Walmart Foundation.
The clubs in Green Bay, the Greater Chippewa Valley, Wausau, and Portage County are receiving $200,000 between them in grant money from the Walmart Foundation to help fund their meal programs. The Executive Director of the Portage County branch, Kevin Quevillon, said that $50,000 is going to Portage County clubs alone.
“We’re able to get some reimbursement for many of the meals we serve, but the Walmart grant, in particular, helps us fund the gap between the reimbursement and what we have to spend,” said Quevillon.
“We serve quite a few meals each day. It varies on the time of year, but in the course of a year, we’re expecting to serve about 70,000 when you combine it all. Snacks, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”
1,600 kids between first and twelfth grades are served by the Portage County Boys & Girls Clubs between nine locations. Wausau’s locations received $40,000.
