WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) Congressman Sean Duffy is suggesting two debates against challenger Mary Hoeft. She had proposed as many as six debates last week.
Duffy said debates could be held on their side of the sprawing 7th Congressional District, perhaps in Wausau and Superior.
“The Wausau media market has almost 50 percent of the district,” Duffy told WAOW NewsLine Nine. “People can get a great idea of where we stand on the issues.”
Hoeft, a French teacher at UW-Barron County, proposed six debates on Friday — giving voters more opportunities to hear and question the candidates.
Duffy, a 44-year-old Republican, is seeking a fourth term.
He has a much larger campaign warchest. An FCC filing says Duffy has $1.2-million on hand. Hoeft has $13,000. Yet Duffy said he is not taking his challenger lightly, saying “Every race in Congress is a serious race. In a district as always competitive as this one is, you take every challenge seriously.”
