WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – There’s a surplus of cranberries. And lawmakers from Wisconsin are asking for the USDA to help out by buying the excess crop.
The Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association says there just isn’t a demand for cranberries right now, especially after Thanksgiving.
“That’s the best way to address the issue is to talk about how do we generate more interest in cranberries, how do we get consumers incorporate more cranberries in their diet, and what products can we develop to make them more appealing,” said executive director, Tom Lochner.
Wisconsin is the top producer of cranberries in the United States. Currently we export between 35-40% of the crop.
