(Thornton, CO) — Former Green Bay Packers’ corner Mike C. McCoy has died after suffering from dementia. The 62-year-old McCoy played for eight N-F-L seasons, all with Green Bay after he was drafted in the third round in 1976.
He started at corner for seven years and had 13 interceptions and five fumble recoveries during his career. The Packers only had two winning seasons during his McCoy’s tenure, in 1978 and ’82 — and a leg injury forced him to retire in 1983.
His former teammate James Lofton says McCoy’s health deteriorated over the past three weeks — and he moved into an assisted living facility in Thornton, Colorado about four years ago because it became too risky to live at home.
