MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) — A Merrill man could be sentenced to three and a half years in prison for cruelty to animals causing death.
Court documents say 25-year-old David Brandenburg became angry with a pet cat when it defecated outside of the litter box. He’s accused of throwing the cat against a door frame, which knocked it unconscious. The cat then layed unattended on the floor, where it died October 12th of last year. The cat’s remains were found in nearby bushes, inside of a bag. Brandenburg admitted to investigators he put the cat there.
Lincoln county District Attorney Donald Dunphy charged Brandenburg with felony mistreatment of an animal as a repeat criminal and felony bail jumping.
Brandenburg is scheduled for an initial court appearance February 18th.
