CINCINNATI, Ohio (WSAU) — Milwaukee Brewers ace Zach Davies had his best game of the year, but an equally fine performance from the Cincinnati Reds’ pitcher Dan Straily befuddled the Brewers’ bats and the Reds escaped with the win and the series 1-0 on Sunday.
Davies was a force on the mound from the start, denying the Reds of a run through seven complete innings pitched, lowering his ERA to a team-best 2.95 in the process. It would take a stolen run from Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton in the bottom of the ninth to get the win after a 1-0 pitch got away from catcher Jonathan Lucroy, allowing Hamilton to use his speed and steal home.
The Brewers have Monday off for travel to Pittsburgh. They’ll begin a series with the Pirates on Tuesday night, with pregame coverage starting at 5:35 p.m. on the Brewers Radio Network.
