WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAU) — A group of Merrill 8th graders has a hot summer story to remember. Their bus trip to Washington D.C. was interrupted by a bus fire.
School officials say the incident happened at about 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when the engine in the rear of the tour bus began smoking. The driver pulled over immediately and the students safely evacuated the bus. A statement from the school district says the students were able to remove all of their belongings on the bus. Chaperone and teacher Mrs. Joelene Weix says their luggage was undamaged, as it was stored in a forward compartment.
Another bus picked up the Merrill students, and their tour continued.
